For Christian missionary Heidi Baker, living inside the heart of God is the most important thing in life.
“What’s the most important thing out of everything? It’s living inside the heart of God,” she told Sondra Martin Hicks, who filled in for theologian Dr. John Diamond during the Aug. 22 episode of “America Unhinged” on Brighteon.TV.
“I have to live inside the heart of Jesus just to breathe, because the trauma … and the suffering [are] so intense. If I don’t live inside His heart – through the Word, prayer, seeking Him and looking into His eyes – then I wouldn’t be able to survive.”
Baker also shared her missionary work through Iris Global, which she and her husband founded in the southeastern African nation of Mozambique in 1980. According to Open Doors USA, Mozambican Christians face persecution from a radical Muslim group tied to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
“Their efforts have included numerous atrocities [such as the burning of] churches and religious schools, and displacement of tens of thousands of people,” said the group.
“So we’ve been through a hellish time. When you have your churches being burned down and people going through so much pain, we can use this horrible situation to grow closer to Jesus and closer to each other,” Baker told Hicks.
“There’s no other place to go so we have to go inside His heart and then comfort those around us with the comfort we’ve received through our trials.”
Baker cited several things she did to overcome the tribulations of her mission in Mozambique, including praying, reflecting on the Word of God, engaging in worship and gathering with Iris Global’s team in Mozambique. According to Baker, all people go through suffering, pain and hardships. If trouble weighs a person down, it could only mean that they will receive even more comfort to pass on to others for their deliverance.
This comfort poured into people, she added, empowers them to bring comfort to others.
“With this comfort upholding you, we can endure victoriously the same suffering that we experience,” explained Baker. “Just as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in God’s comforting strength. This is a time we just need to go so deep inside the Word of God, the heart of God, and allow him to comfort us in our pain so that we can go out and comfort others.”
The hard times Iris Global experienced while in Mozambique – including famine, starvation and war – empowered it to comfort others. For one, the lack of food opened up an opportunity for the mission to feed internally displaced Mozambicans. Believers opened their little homes to accommodate others in the spirit of generosity.
Despite the pandemic, Iris Global was still able to feed more than 40,000 people a day through its food aid. It was also able to provide people with a solar-powered audio Bible to let them hear the Word of God.
